On March 14, 2011 the National library of the Republic Kazakhstan together with the OCLC (The Online Computer Library Centre, http://www.oclc.org) carried out the OCLC informational seminar.
The greeting was delivered by First Deputy Director-General of the National library of the RK Gulissa Balabekova.the presentations on the activity of the OCLC and the World Cat catalogue were made by the OCLC representatives: Mr.Rein van Charldorp – executive director of OCLC and Mrs.Vivien Cook – the specialist and regional manager of WorldCat.
The OCLC organizes the international library network with the distributed cataloguing and the world-wide joint catalogue. There at the seminar was presented the OCLC production, including the WorldCat – the biggest online bibliographical resource, in which there is accumulated information without any restrictions as to kinds, temporal or lingual differences. The purpose of the seminar is to acquaint the specialists of the libraries and informational centres of Kazakhstan with the OCLC activity and also with the advantages which the Kazakhstani libraries may receive from cooperation with the OCLC.
One of the main purposes of this cooperation the librarians of Kazakhstan see in the possibility of integration into the world informational space and represent Kazakhstan in the world WorldCat catalogue meritoriously.
There in the seminar participated the specialists of the national, republican, regional, city libraries and the National book chamber. |
