International conference
“The new format of libraries of Eurasia. Information systems and technologies”,
November 15-17, 2011.

   On November 15-17, 2011 the National library of the Republic Kazakhstan with the support of the Interstate foundation of humanitarian cooperation of the state-participants of the CIS (the IFHC) carried out the International conference “The new format of libraries of Eurasia. Information systems and technologies”.

   The main purpose of the conference was the determination of the new strategy for interaction of the libraries of the countries of the CIS. The discussion of the effecticve issues for the formation of the interstate network infrastructure  and network resources, including projects pertaining to e-libraries and advancement of library innovations.

   There in the work of the conference participated represejntatives of the Ministries of culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the countries of the CIS, the official representative of the IFHC, the President of the Russian state library, directors of the state and national libraries of the Russian Federation, director of the Presidential library after B.N.Eltsin, the heads and representatives of the national, state, republican and regional universal scientific libraries of Azerbaidjan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tatarstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, representatives of establishments of culture, science and education of the republic and also the prominent public figures.

   The carrying out of the International conference is timed to the celebration of the 20-th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the 20-th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the 80-th anniversary of the National library of the Republic Kazakhstan.

   There within the framework of the conference took place the plenary sessions, panels named “The state policy in the sphere of librarianship of the CIS countries: experience, problems, perspectives”, “The heritage and cultural space of the CIS countries”, the section “The national electronic libraries and the world information space”, the annual council of the directors of the regional universal scientific libraries of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

   There with the words of greeting spoke: B.E.Altayev, head of the Department of historical-cultural heritage of the Committee of culture of the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, V.A.Zhandauletov, head of the Almaty bureau of the Press-Service of the President of the RK, O.V.Barakayeva, councillor of the Interstate foundation of humanitarian cooperation of the CIS state-participants, O.I.Karpukhin, councillor of the General secretary of the Integration committee of the EvrAzES, M.A.Nurmagambetov, councillor of the Minister of foreign affairs, Galym Zhailybai, first deputy of the Chairman of the Writers’Union of Kazakhstan.

   There at the plenary session in the key report of Director-General of the National library of the RK G.K.Balabekova “About the strategy and new priorities of development of the Eurasian library space” were presented the theoretical, ideological, conceptual, technological directions of integration of the libraries of Eurasia.

   There was held the XIII-th General meeting of the members of the Library Assembly of Eurasia, on which there were summarized the results of 2008-2011 and determined the further strategy and priorities of the LAE. There also took place the election of the President and Vice-Presidents of the LAE for 2012-2015. President of the LAE was elected director of the Russian state library A.I.Vislyi, the Vice-Presidents – Director-General of the NLRK G.K.Balabekova and Director-General of the NL of Belarus R.S.Motulskiy.

   There for the attention of the conference participants was presented the Kazakhstani-Russian project “The documentary heritage of Kazakhstan within the fonds of the Russian national library”. There was also organized a thematic book exhibition dedicated to the 80-th anniversary of the National library and the 20-th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
