In “Kazakhstan kitaptar” department there is opened the book exhibition “Kop kyrly kalamger” dedicated to the 80-th anniversary of the writer, state figure, candidate of science (art study) Smayilov Kamal Seitzhanovich.

   Smayilov Kamal Seitzhanovich (1932-2003) was born in Sarlyk village of the Ulytau district of the Karaganda region. In 1954 he graduated from the section of journalistics of the faculty of philology of the Kazakh state university after S.M.Kirov (today the Kazakh national university after Al-Farabi). He began his labour activity as a correspondent of “Leninshyl zhas” newspaper (now “Zhas Alash”) in the Karaganda region (1954-1960).

   Smayilov K.S. made a considerable contribution into the development of the socio-political life of the republic: he worked as a secretary of the Central Committee of the Leninist Communist Youth League of Kazakhstan (1962-1964), occupied the posts of director of the cinema studio “Kazakhfilm” (1965-1971), chairman of the State Committee of the Kazakh SSR on cinematography (1973-1977), head of the department of culture of the Administration of affairs of the Council of Ministers of the KazSSR (1977-1980), chairman of the board of the Union of journalists of Kazakhstan (1990-2001), chairman of the consultative council of the Union of journalists of Kazakhstan (2001-2003) and others.

    He was elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the RK (from the Union of journalists of Kazakhstan, 1991).

    The honoured figure of the RK, awarded twice with the “Badge of honour” order and the honorary badge “Altyn adam” (2001). 

    The creative activity of Kamal Smayilov is dedicated to the historical events connected with the birth and establishment of independent Kazakhstan, the problems of the nuclear polygon, cosmonautics and also Kazakh cinema art and television.

     The book exhibition consists of two parts dedicated to the life and creative activity of the writer. There are presented upon the exhibition the works of K.Smayilov: “Senyn bakytyn” (1960), “Zholdanbagan 27 khat” (1992), “Elim sagan aitam, el basy, sen tynda!” (1998), “Zhety kyr bir syr” (2000), a collection of selected works in three volumes (2003-2004) and others.
