   There in the department of world literature is opened an exhibition dedicated to the 200-th jubilee of the British novelist Charles John Huffam Dickens (1812-1870). The exhibition will last from February 6 to April 9, 2012.

  Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812 in Landport city near Portsmouth. The father of Dickens was a clerk who earned good money but was a spendthrift and in 1824 he was put in prison for debtors. The 12-year old Charles was forced to leave school and go to a factory. After working for several years as a newspaper reporter, Dickens in 1836 started publishing his serial “The Papers of the Pickwick Club”. After several months he became the most popular writer in England. The novels written by Dickens during the 30-year long writing career were very popular. Dickens had a gift of making magnificent speeches and performed well. Into his performances totaling more than 470, Dickens put all his energy, feelings and powers. Such overloads are said to have been one of the causes of his premature death at the age of 58.

    The book exhibition consists of 3 раrts: the editions published in his lifetime; the editions published again and translations into the Russian language; the books dedicated to his life and creative activity. Out of the fond of the National library of the RK there are at the exhibition presented the following editions of the author during his lifetime from 1839 tо 1857 год:

   The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby (1839, 1843, 1869); The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club (1842); The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit (1844); A Christmas Carol (1846); Dombey and Son (1847); The Battle of Life (1856); Little Dorrit (1856-1857).

   The book exhibition consists of 3 parts: the works published during his lifetime; the works published anew and translations into Russian; Books dedicated to his life and creative activity. There at the exhibition are presented the following works of the author published during his lifetime from 1839 to 1857: The life and adventures of Nickolas Nickleby (1839, 1843, 1869); The posthumous papers of the Pickwick club (1842); The life and adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit (1844); A Christmas carrol (1846); Dombey and Son (1847); The battle of life (1856); Little Dorrit (1856-1857).
