   There in the department “Kazakhstan kitaptary” is organized the book exhibition Dedicated to the centenary of the public figure, writer, translator Bekturov Zhaiyk Kagenovich.

   Zhaiyk Bekturov was born on October 15, 1912 in the village Kyzylagash of the Akmola region. 

    Zh.Bekturov started studying with the mullah when he was 5 years old, after that he studied in the village school. He was sent to the teachers’ courses in Atbasar. In 1930-31 he worked as village teacher in the Nurinsk district of the Karaganda region, later on he was sent to the Komsomol work.

    From 1934 to 1937 he worked in the apparatus of the Chimkent obkom of the Komsomol, at the responsible posts in the Kazakh district , Aryss, Maktaaral district Komsomol organizations of the Southern-Kazakhstani region.

     From 1937 the labour biography of Zh.Bekturov is inseparably linked with the literary activity. In 1937-1938 he is deputy editor of the newspaper “Leninshyl Zhas” (today “Zhas Alash”), the editor of the Zhambyl regional newspaper “Enbek Tuy”. After that he worked as teacher in the schools of Karaganda and Taldykorgan cities, as a correspondent of the regional newspapers. From 1958 he headed the Karaganda interregional department of the Writers’ union of Kazakhstan.

     The first literary-critical articles, essays and verses of Bekturov started to be published in 1928. About the years of the political repressions, through which he had gone and stagnation in the country Zhaiyk Bekturov wrote the novel “Tanba” consisting of three parts. The book narrates about the cruel conditions of life in prison, about the totalitarian regime which had destroyed the best of the nation. The work on the novel was begun at the end of the 40-s and was finished in 1989. The essays about the founders of the Kazakh national literature A.Baitursynov, M.Zhumabayev,Zh.Aimauytov, Sh.Kudaiberdiyev, Bukhar-zhyrau, the prominent public and political figures are marked by real talent.

     Zh.Bekturov widely propagated among the Kazakh population the works of A.S.Pushkin, F.M.Dostoyevski, S.A.Esenin, G.N.Potanin and other outstanding figures of Russian literature and culture. He translated into the Kazakh language many works of the Russian and Soviet writers. Also Zh.Bekturov translated into Kazakh “Robinson Cruso” by D.Defo, “Stepan Razin” by A.Chapygin, the collection of short stories of L.Panteleyev, the works of D.Lvovich, Sh.Petefi, G.Serebryakova, Ya. Gashek and others.

     He was awarded by the medals of the USSR, the Honorary certificates of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR. He was a member of the Union of journalists of the USSR, the Geographical society of the USSR, member of the directorate of the Writers’ union of Kazakhstan. For the great merits in the development of culture and literature, the international and patriotic upbringing of the working youth in 1992 he was awarded the title “The honorary citizen of Karaganda city”.

     There at the book exhibition are presented the materials about the life, labour activity and the literary works of Zh.Bekturov: “Akikaty osy edi” (1995), “Tanba” (1997, 2011) and multiple articles, essays, verses published in different years in the Kazakhstani newspapers and magazines.
