    The book-exhibition, devoted to 120-th  anniversary  of  the  Hero  of  the  Soviet  Union, Guard  Major-General General  Panfilov I.V.  is  organized  in the Department of World  Literature.

     Ivan   Vasilyevich  Panfilov (1892-1941) -   the  Soviet  military   leader,  Guard   Major-General, the  Hero of  the  Soviet Union. Ivan  Vasilyevich  was  born  on  20  December  1892 ( the  1-st of  January 1893)  in Petrovsk town, Saratovskaya  guberniya.  He  grew  in  a  family  of  a petty  clerk.  He  wasn’t  able  to  do  four years  of  City  college  of  Petrovsk town on account  of  early  mother’s  death, since 1905  he  was  employed  in  the  shop. He  was  drafted  into the  Russian  Imperial  Army  in  1915. He  served  in the  168  Reserve  battalion (Insara,  Penzenskaya guberniya).  He  was  a  participant  of  the 1-st World War.

     In  the  early  of  1917  I.V.Panfilov  already  commanded  a  company.  He  joined  the  Red  Army  voluntarily  in  October of  1918,  participated  in  the  Civil  War of 1918-1921. He  joined  the  Turkestan  front  as  volunteer. From April 1924 – the commander of the shooters’ company, from October 1924 – the head of the regiment school of the 1-st Turkestani shooters regiment at the Turkestani front. When the Great Patriotic war began I.V.Panfilov personally was occupied with the formation of the 316-th shooters’ division in the Middle-Asian military district in Almaty city, occupying the post of the commander of the division. In October, 1941 the division arrived within the composition of the army in the field to the Western front and in subsequent months participated in the defence battles of the Moscow battle in October-November, 1941. For more than two months the Panfilov soldiers rebuffed the attacks of  the tank and infantry detachments of the enemy at the Volokolamsk direction, showing mass heroism and fortitude of the soldiers in the battle.

    Major-General I.V.Panfilov died on the battlefield on November 19, 1941 near Volokolamsk city near the village Gusenevo (the Volokolamsk district of the Moscow region).

     The Hero of the Soviet Union I.V.Panfilov is awarded by the order of Lenin, three times the orders of the Red Banner, the medal “XX years of the Workers-peasants Red Army”. One of the districts in the Almaty region received the name of I.V.Panfilov, in Almaty one street was named after him.

    There at the exhibition from the fond of the National library of the RK is presented literature about the life and military activity of I.V.Panfilov: “The Hero of the Soviet Union I.V.Panfilov” by P.Kuznetsov,  “We are from the Panfilov division” by A.Usenov,  “The Panfilov soldiers” – the recollections of Dmitry Snegin, “The marshal G.K.Zhukov. Recollections and meditations”, “General Panfilov”, “Our general” by B.Momyshuly, “The Panfilov soldiers” by F.Selivanov and others.
