There in the hall for scientific workers of “Kazakstan kitaptary” department is organized the book exhibition, dedicated to the 90-th anniversary of the well-known scientist-metallurgist, doctor of science (technology), academician of the National academy of sciences of the RK

   Ni Leonid Pavlovich (1923-2005) was born in Russia in the city of Vladivostok. In 1946 he graduated with honors from the faculty of metallurgy of the Kazakh mining-metallurgical institute (today the Kazakh National technical university after K.Satpayev). He began his labour activity in 1946 in the scientific-research institutes of the Academy of sciences of Kazakhstan.

   In 1950 he defended the candidate dissertation by the theme “The dependence of specific resistance during the filtration upon the qualities of precipitations”, in 1967 the doctoral dissertation by the theme “The investigation of the role of high-module aluminate solutions in the processes of processing of high-silicon boxites”. In 1970-1981 he occupies the post of deputy director of the Institute of metallurgy and enrichment of the Academy of sciences of Kazakhstan. In 1975 he was elected corresponding member and in 1994 – academician of the Academy of sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

   Leonid Ni devoted many years of his scientific activity to the research of physical chemistry and technology of silica, the nature of solutions in heterogenic processes. He solved many issues pertaining to the processing of substandard aluminum raw material, there were carried out and inculcated the important works in the perfection of the main processes in silica production. He heads the new trend in the technology of silica production – the processing of high-silica aluminum raw material with the hydro-alkaline methods. L.P.Ni was a participant of many international and republican symposiums, congresses and conferences. He is the author of more than 600 published works, including 13 monographs, more than 100 inventions and patents.

   For the merits in the development of metallurgy and preparation of scientific cadres he was awarded with the orders of the Labour Red Banner, “Badge of Honour”, the Certificate of the Supreme Soviet of the KazSSR and with medals. In 1971 he was given the honorary title “The honred figure of science of the Kazakh SSR”, in 1980 for the elaboration and inculcation into production of the new method of processing of low-quality boxites he was awarded the State prize of the USSR. In different years he was awarded with the golden and silver medals of the VDNKh of the USSR and with diplomas of the VDNKh of the KazSSR.

   There at the book exhibition are presented materials about the life and labour activity of Ni Leonid Pavlovich and also his scientific works: “The alkaline hydro-chemical methods of processing of high-silicon boxites” (1967), “The physical chemistry of hydro-alkaline methods of silicon production” (1975), “The physical-chemical qualities of raw materials and products of silicon production” (1978), “The combinatory methods of processing of low-quality aluminum raw material” (1988) and others.
