On April 11-13, 2013 there in the Kazakhstani centre of business cooperation “Atakent” (Almaty city) took place the VII-th International book and polygraphical exhibition-fair “By the Great Silk way- 2013”.
The organizers: the Ministry of culture and information of the RK, the National state book chamber of the RK, the Association of publishers and book distributors of Kazakhstan, the International exhibition company “Atakent-Expo”.
There in the activity participated 98 publishing houses from 13 countries of the world who presented to the reader audience approximately 5 thousand books. Among them: the book production of Russia, Belarus, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, China, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and others.
The main purpose of the exhibition is to acquaint readers with new information and new literature, to strengthen the mutual relations and exchange of best experience, to establish informational and creative cooperation of libraries, publishers, polygraphists and authors.
During its multi-year history the exhibition “By the Great Silk way” has become the traditional holiday for the national book publishing, the polygraphical complex of the republic and it is an important event in the cultural life of the city. The peculiarity of the exhibition-fair is the wide assortment of book production. There within the framework of the exhibition the workers from the acquisitions department of the National library of the RK became acquainted with the book exhibitions, participated in the workshops and presentations, carried out negotiations with the representatives of publishing houses, also exchanged information. They have established close relations with the publishers of Russia, Belarus, Tajikistan, China, acquired catalogues and price-lists.
As a result of the work carried out by the workers of the acquisitions department with the publishing houses, the book-fond of the National library was replenished with new editions. There were received as donations 626 titles of books in the sphere of science, 134 Russian magazines. Among the donors there are Russian publishers – 176 books (“Nauka” – 111 books, “Veche” - 103, “Sofia” – 118, “Molodaya Gvardia”, “Dashkov”, “Binom”, “MK-periodika” and others), Belorussian publishers – 26, Tajik publishers – 10, “Sinkiang people’s publishers” -62, Kazakhstani publishers – 20 books.
