On December 24, 2014 at 15:00 hours there in the Exhibitions' hall took place the panel dedicated to the 195-th birthday of the well-known governor-general of Verny city Gerasim Alexeevich Kolpakovskiy (1819-1896).

   This activity was organized together with the Consulate-General of the Russian Federation in Almaty city, the representation of “Rossotrudnichestvo” in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
   The moderator of the panel was the consul of the Russian Federation in Almaty city, deputy head of the representation of “Rossotrudnichestvo” in the Republic of Kazakhstan I.V.Pereverzeva.
   The panel was dedicated to the unique historical personality of great talent, who began his activity as an ordinary emplyee and who reached the highest civil and military rank of general-governor and general of infantry and who was rightfully called the organizer of the Semirechye region. It was namely G.A.Kolpakovskiy who created and headed the Committee for the planning and organization of public services in the city Vernyi. It is owing to him that Vernyi (Alma-Ata, Almaty) has the straight and wide streets, the clear-cut planning of the city, the organization of the roads, road side irrigation-ditches and the planting of trees and shrubs and it has the status of “the garden-city”. He organized the men’s and women’s gymnasiums, the orphans’ house and the school.
   There in the work of the panel participated the workers of the Archives of the President of the RK, of the Central State museum, the historians, regional-study specialists, literary workers, artists and the pupils of the Almaty spiritual seminary. They shared their understanding of the role and significance in the activity of G.A.Kolpakovskiy in the cause of organization of the Semirechye region, they told the participants about the new historical archival sources, the materials and researches dedicated to this giant figure of the XIX-th century. Especial attention was attracted by the speech of the author of the book named “The Vernyi stories” N.Buketova.
   The National library presented the unique book exhibition named “The First steppe general-governor” from the fond of rare books and modern editions dedicated to the history of the Vernyi city and the life and activity of G.A.Kolpakovskiy, and also the Museum of history of Almaty city organized an exhibition from its fond, at which there were presented the exhibits connected with the life and work of G.A.Kolpakovskiy in the Semirechye region.
