There in the reading-hall of the Arts department if organized the book exhibition “Murazhai muranyn kozi” dedicated to the 80-th anniversary of the State arts’ museum after A.Kasteyev.

   The State arts’ museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan after A.Kasteyev was organized in 1976 on the basis of the collections of the Kazakh state art gallery after T.G.Shevchenko and the Republican museum of applied art.
In January, 1984 the museum was named after the people’s artist of the Kazakhy SSR Abylkhan Kasteyev.
At the present time the State arts’ museum after A.Kasteyev is the largest artistic museum of the country and the leading scientific-research and cultural-enlightenment centre in the sphere of imitative art.
   The fonds of the museum number more than 24000 units of storage: among them the works of imitative art of Kazakhstan, of Western, Russian and Soviet art, the articles of traditional and modern applied art of Kazakhstan, and also the collectionsof applied art of China, India, Japan.
   The history of creation of the collection began on September 23, 1935 when there was organized the Artistic gallery in Alma-Ata.
Its first exhibits became the works of the local artists from the exhibition dedicated to the 15-th year of formation of the Kazakh SSR.
In 1936 the museums of Russia – the Tretyakov gallery, the Russian museum and the State museum of arts after Pushkin donated to the new gallery out of their fonds approximately 200 works of the Soviet, Russian and Western-European artists.
After two years the gallery started its exhibition activity by showing the works of the Kazakhstani artists dedicated to the 20-th anniversary of the October revolution.
   Today the museum possesses a vast collection of people’s applied art of the XIX-XX-th cc.
Most of it consists of silver articles. There in the collectionare the jewellery embelishments of different regions of the republic. These are the bracelets and the rings, temporal pendants and ear-rings, articles for the plaits and amulets.The collection of felt and woven carpets impresses one with the splendour of ornaments.
   The wooden trunks and chests for keeping foodstuffs, the beds, the musical instruments and the saddles amaze one with the beauty of carved ornaments.
   There are in the collection of the museum the tapestries of K.Tynybekov who was the first one to give in the 1970-80-ss to the ethnographical material the modern meaning.
   The tapestries by B.Zaurbekova, A.and S.Bapanovs testify to the striving of our masters to renew the language of images by uniting the national perception of the world, the modern rhythm of feeling and the subjective intonation.
The primary part of the collection are the works of the painters, graphic experts and sculptors of Kazakhstan.
   The main forms of work of the museum are the active invitation of visitors to the museum, the carrying out of excursions the purpose of which is to acquaint them with the high artistic level of the collection of the museum; the reading of lectures with the use of the rich illustrative material.
   There at the book exhibition is presented literature about the history and development of the State arts’ museum after A.Kasteyev from the fond of the National library of the RK.
