There in the Hall of world literature is organized the book exhibition dedicated to the 150-th anniversary of the well-known novel “Crime and punishment” of the Russian writer Feodor Mikhailovich Dostoevskiy.

Feodor Mikhailovich Dostoevskiy is the greatest writer, classic of Russian literature and thinker. He is the author of such immortal works like: “Idiot”, “Crime and punishment”, “The abused and insulted”, “The Karamazov brothers” and many others.
The writer was born on November 11, 1821 in Moscow, in the large family of the military medical worker. When he was 15 years old after the death of his mother together with his brother Michael he was forced to move to Saint-Petersburg and enters the military-engineer special school. In 1844 Feodor Mikhailovich writes his first work – “The poor people” which after the publication brings fame to the author.
The novel of Feodor Dostoyevskiy “Crime and punishment” was published for the first time in “Russkiy vestnik” magazine in 1866. This work enters “the great five books’ collection” of the master of the word along with “Idiot”, “Demons”, “The adolescent” and “The Karamazov brothers”. It saw the light fully in 1867. Dostoyevskiy worked a lot upon the novel, hurrying to add to each new book of the magazine the new chapters. Soon after the publication of the novel in the magazine Dostoyevskiy prints it as a separate edition named: “The novel in six parts with the epilogue by F.M.Dostoyevskiy. The amended edition”.  For this edition Dostoyevskiy made considerable reductions and changes in the texts: the three parts of the magazine edition were transformed into six parts, there were partially changed the division into chapters.
«Crime and punishment” is one of the most serious, deep and original novels of Dostoyevskiy. At the same time it is also one of the luckiest novels of his.
The plot of the novel is around the main hero Rodion Raskolnikov, in whose head there matures the theory of the crime. Raskolnikov himself is very poor and he can’t pay up not only his studies at the university but his own life expenses. It became the last drop and Raskolnikov commits the premeditated murder of the old lender woman. Beginning from this time there begins the terrible life of a criminal. The subtle psychologism , the understanding of the deed are picturesquely depicted by Dostoevskiy. There into the plot of the novel are involved still new and new persons. Fate brings him together with the lonely, frightened poor girl, in whom he finds an allied soul and support – Sonya Marmeladova. At the end of the novel Rodion racked by doubts, comes to the coroner and acknowledges the murder. Raskolnikov doesn’t admit the crime after himself; he is sorry only that he so foolishly and dully perished  by giving in to his own weakness.
The novel of F.M.Dostoyevskiy “Crime and punishment” belongs to those great works of world literature, whose value in time is not diminishing but on the contrary increases for each new generation.
The novel was translated into many languages: English, French, German, Czech, Italian, Croatian, Bulgarian, Lithuanian, Kazakh, Chinese and many others. In Esperanto the whole novel was published in 1993; the translation (“Krimo kaj puno”) was made by Andrei Parfentyev. There by the plot of the novel were shot films and cartoons many times.
