On November 11-12, 2009 the workers of the National library of the RK Koshtayeva K.K., Kasymzhanova K.T., Nigmetova A.D. took part in the regional seminar of the libraries of the Akmola region in Kokshetau city by the theme: “The standardization of the library processes as the basis for the inculcation of the system of quality management”.

On the first day in accordance with the programme of the seminar there was carried out the review of the SIBID standards, there was discussed the standard GOST 7.20-2000 “Library statistics”. There for the bibliographers and processing workers were carried out the practical studies by the standard 7.1-2003 “Bibliographical record. Bibliographical description”.

The second day of the seminar began with the speech by the theme “The system of quality management in librarianship”, after which there took place the practical study at which the librarians of the region were offered to make calculations using some indices which allowed to make an appraisal of the activity of their own library in accordance with the standard ISO 11620:1998 “Information and documentation. The indices of efficacy of the libraries’ work”. Afterwards there at the panel there were discussed the main problems of librarianship, the workers of the National library gave consultations and answered the questions pertaining to the activity of the libraries.

The carrying out of this seminar, the use of the interstate standards in librarianship will be conducive for the rendering by the libraries of the region of competitive services to the users.
