On October 27, 2009 the National library of the RK together with the Akimat of Almaty city carried out the panel dedicated to the centenary of birth of the People’s artist of Kazakhstan, laureate of the State prize of Kazakhstan Garifolla Kurmangaliyev.

On the opera stage Kurmangaliyev (from 1934 to 1966) performed more than 20 main parts in the operas. The people of different countries heard his legendary voice: in China, Pakistan, Iran, Germany, Italy. Garifolla managed to bring to our times the heritage of Mukhit – this epical or rather song-performing colossus of the 19-th century. He managed to leave an indelible impression in the Kazakh culture as the outstanding concert performer and opera singer, the author of his own bright creations – the songs, verses and poems, as the original and unique cinema actor, as the collector of the folklore and as the talented pedagogue.

The National library of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2008 prepared the recommendational bibliographical index dedicated to the life and creative activity of the People’s artist G.Kurmangaliyev.

The materials presented in the given index embrace the period from 1956 to 2008.

There for the activity was opened the book-illustrative exhibition “An zhauharyn urpagyna kaldyrgan” from the fond of the National library of the RK. At the same time there at the exhibition were presented the materials from the family archive of G.Kurmangaliyev.

There participated in the organization and carrying out of the panel: the people’s artist of the USSR B.A.Tulegenova, the pupils of the singer – the people’s artist of Kazakhstan K.Bekbosynov, the honored artist of the RK K.Kulysheva, the laureate of the state prize “Daryn”, the head of the chair of folk singing of the Kazakh national conservatoire after Kurmangazy S.Zhanpeyisova, the granddaughter of the singer – the musical critic M.Kurmangaliyeva, the readers of the library. The moderator of the panel was the laureate of the State prize of the RK, the theatre critic Ashirbek Sygai.
