On October 16, 2009 the workers of the National library of the RK Kasymzhanova K.T., Zamzayeva T., Kuliyeva B., Zhumadilova K. took part in the festival of the librarians of the Southern-Kazakhstani region named “The book and reading”.

There within the framework of the festival took place the scientific-practical conference “The libraries in the history and culture of the region”. The organizers of the festival are the Regional department of culture of the Southern-Kazakhstani region, the Association of librarians of the Southern-Kazakhstani region, the Regional universal scientific library after A.S.Pushkin. There took place in the activity the specialists of the libraries of different systems and departments, the writers and poets, the journalists and readers. The doctor of science (history), professor Sabit Zholdasov made a report named “The history of book and reading in the Southern-Kazakhstani region”. The writer, journalist, correspondent of the newspaper “Egemen Kazakhstan” in the Southern-Kazakhstani region M.Baigut in his speech highlighted the problems of reading.

The theme of the speech of Kasymzhanova K.T., the head of the Centre of libraries’ development of the NLRK – “The libraries of the Southern-Kazakhstani region within the system of the libraries of the republic”. The speech of the chief librarian of the Centre of rare books and manuscripts of the NLRK Zamzayeva T. was devoted to the rare books and periodical editions in the fonds of the National library of the RK. There was also presented to the participants of the conference the Conception of development of the Southern-Kazakhstani regional universal scientific library after A.S.Pushkin for 2010-2015.The festival was succeeded by the competition “The best rural librarian”. There participated in the competition 14 rural librarians of the region. The winner of the competition was the rural librarian of the village Kainar of the Tolebi district Amangeldiyeva Nurzhamal. On October 17 the specialists of the NLRK took part in the opening ceremony of the museum of Abai in Shymkent city, to which there were invited the writers and poets of Kazakhstan, the public of the city.
